Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is a severe, often fatal zoonotic illness caused by the Ebolavirus genus of the Filoviridae family. First identified in 1976 near the Ebola River, it is primarily transmitted from fruit bats to humans and spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids.
